I'm very excited to announce we finally found our stride this week. I'm unsure if it was due to David's very helpful feedback or we just finally decided to cut back the number of pieces of artwork and replace some entirely that really allowed us to focus but the project finally came together into something I feel can really work.

I've added the project here so you can see how the draft is coming along. We know it's aesthetically unappealing and we still have to work on finding one voice as it's currently obvious that there are three people working on this project but I'm still really proud of it. Spending time going through curriculum codes gave me a newfound appreciation for educators as well.

I also love that this project allowed me to incorporate some of my favorite artists such as Salvador Dalì (I feel a deep connection to surrealism) as well as introducing me to some artists who are utilizing new media to invoke social commentary through their works. Marianela de la Hoz is setting the world on fire with her pieces that draw you in close and celebrate dark humor. Even if her work of Estoy Necesitado de Carne (I Am in the Need of Flesh) is not your scene her other work is bound to have you talking. I also found that modern art has more intrigue than I originally thought. Brian Burkhardt's Mushroom Plug Tray 100 (I know, weird name but go look it's breathtaking) utilizes the aesthetic of industrialized agriculture to show how organisms have adapted to modern methods of growth when manipulated by agricultural scientists and biologists while still remaining pleasing to the eye.

Overall this project has opened my eyes to the ways that art interacts with the viewer and has the ability to invoke emotion and ideals of a brighter future. Our project was about Art and STEM. Focusing on science and how the evolution of science parallel the evolution of art was a happy accident. As we see advancements in science we also see advancements in art technologies. Focusing less on the world around themselves and more on their effects on the world as subject matter. We do not go into that connection much in our project as this is just a teaching portfolio but the pattern was interesting in itself to note. We do have a significant gap in pieces chosen from the late 1980s- the early 2010s. We could not include every piece that fit with our them but it is intriguing to note such a large gap in time.

I'm really excited to see where this project takes us next. Even if it's just more talking about the art and artists with my peers this project has opened my eyes to so much.

When this project began I was worried that my lack of experience would be a detriment to my group. I have never done a project like this...
